How to access the iPhone's filesystem on your Mac (AFP)

step Make sure your device is connected to the internet. Download the application AFPd via Installer.app. (Source: psmxy.org/iphone-apps)
step Open the AFPd application on your device.

step Turn the AFP Server on and give a service name to your device.

step Now your device shows up in the Finder sidebar. If that is not the case, choose Go to > Connect to Server (command-K). Type in the IP-address you see in the AFP Server Control Panel (here: 192.168.1.37).

step Click connect and then type in username and password. Username: root, password: alpine (unless you changed them).

step You're done!

Advantages of this method:
  • Easy access via Finder
  • No software-installation on the computer needed
  • No wire needed
  • Works perfectly well
  • Access to both the Root and Media partition


Disadvantages:
  • Relatively slow (~ 1.5 MB/sec) using an Airport Extreme 802.11n
  • Works only with Macs
